Meinie Nicolai is a senior humanitarian advisor and public health expert. Meinie has more than 30 years of humanitarian experience with MSF both, in the direct running of field operations as in strategic roles in the Headquarters of the organization. A nurse by profession with an MSc in Public Health of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Meinie has been directly involved in complex crisis situations such as Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South-Sudan, Angola, Libya, the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Central Africa. After almost 10 years full time in complex humanitarian operations, Meinie has been leading the operations from Brussels as Director of Operations and was the president of the MSF Belgium association before being nominated as the General Director of MSF OCB. Meinie has been a member of the MSF Core ExCom and International Board. After the end of her mandate as the General Director, Meinie is now a senior advisor for operations in complex situations and was emergency coordinator in Gaza in February 2024. Meinie has experience in crisis management and security and has been leading crisis-management-teams. Meinie was one of the motors behind the MSF Academy for health Care and created the OCB-OR-days. She was recently was part of the team that published in The Lancet on the treatment of war-wounded in Gaza.
