Bret S. Engelkemier

Bret Engelkemier is based in Sacramento, California and is the former International Treasurer for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and co-chair of MSF’s Finance, Audit and Risk Standing Committee. He is an active angel investor, and both a member and board director of Sacramento Angels, a group that invests in start-up companies in California, and a past member of the Space Angel Network.  Prior to moving to California, Engelkemier founded an advisory firm specializing in strategic and tactical advisory services, product development, and business restructuring after a career at Citigroup as Managing Director in the Global Equities business from 1995-2008. At Citigroup, Engelkemier was involved in a number of acquisitions and investments for the Global Equity business.  Through these investments, he served as Citigroup’s representative on the board of the Boston Options Exchange and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.  Early in his career, Engelkemier lived for 10 years in Japan, first as a guest researcher at the Communications Research Laboratory in Tokyo before joining Salomon Brothers in the mid-1990ss.  He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a M.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, each in aerospace engineering.
